Ok, in my last blog post I said Brett Favre can't happen, so Sage or T-Jack has to.  Well, i stand corrected.  I saw u-tube video today of Favre throwing and saying it felt "OK".  He also said "ok" isn't good enough.  We all know give him the time between now and Training Camp, it's going to be a Brett Favre's level of "ok".  I guess this Viking fan needs to be on the "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" bandwagon.  I don't necessarily like it, but we all also know it's going to happen.  Brett is noticably drooling over the opportunity he is presented with with the Vikes.  He has a chance here to do what Jerome Bettis and Michael Strahan did.  If he can manage it more power to him, but this Vikings fan has also got a lot of Packer backer friends and he will never be accepted back the way he was if he does this.  Ted Thompson, hide that hunting knife you keep around, cuz attempts to split your back are coming from #4.  Obviously that is part of this scenario.

Jackson has gone back and forth as the pet project of head coach Brad Childress and has seen more up than down in his young NFL career. Booty, who had a solid collegiate career has yet to throw a pass in a meaningful NFL game. The Vikings have a championship caliber team with star talent at every position on the field except the most important, at quarterback.

s an unrestricted free agent, and ever since the gossip has been swirling that Head Coach Brad Childress has been trying to woo Favre to his former rival team the Minnesota Vikings. At Favre's press conference he stated that he was retired from the National Football League "at this time" and the rumor mill has been churning up stories ever since. But whats the truth? It was reported that Childress flew to visit Favre at his home in Mississippi on Wednesday May 6, but Childress arrived the Vikings training facility the following morning. Are we to believe that if such meeting did occur, that it was so cut and dry as to be concluded in less than a day. Fans don't know whats going on, and its stirring up some unpleasant feelings from many die hard Vikes fans who will forever view Brett as the most loathesome of rivals, a Green Bay Packer. And on the other hand, there are some fans who overlook Favre's green and gold upbringing and view him simply as the best man for the job, as many folks have speculated that the Vikings are just a great Quarterback away from being a true Super Bowl Contender.

Overall, I think it must be said the Vikings draft was a success.  Percy Harvin was a very smart move with his play making ability.  However, I think it must be noted that the original structure for "character first" within the Spielman-Childress regime is being seen to be sliding a bit.  This Purple People Eater fan thinks the pressure to win and potentially salvage an  executive or two's job might be the cause for relaxing that standard.  Chilly must have received one heck of a warm and fuzzy feeling from those down in Gainesville to look beyond Harvin's character issues.  Time will only tell on that.  If one takes the time to examine some of the Gainesville blog's about Harvin's off the field antics in his last years down there, it is certainly not favorable.  It is painstakenly obvious that he got a lot of latitude from Coach Meyer when it comes to being on the field.  A player with less talent, may not have experienced the same.  If Percey can prove me wrong and become a model citizen as well as maintain his showtime ability, then I will glady eat the crow that will be waiting for me.

1st to my blogging fans.....I apologize for having a longer lapse between my entries.  I know, haha, some of you are waiting on the edge of you seat for every word I may write, lol.....yeah sure and now I will get over myself!!  Life has been busy and my store is taking off, so I won't complain about that and thank my lucky stars for it's fortune.  Now back to the Purple Crew;  latest news out of Chicago has some undisclosed (of course!!) Bears players not too happy with the fact of Jay Cutler not only not knowing who Sid Luckman is or was, but in his live press intro, he openly displayed the attitude of "whatever" toward the Bears icon.  Not good when it comes to the respect trait toward those that have come before him in the grand scheme of Bears country.  The reason I put this competitors thought in my Purple Crew speal is because the Bears ARE in our division.  Now, do I think Cutler will be able to impact the Purple's success?  Heck NO......the Bears offensive line isn't anything like what Denver's was or what our's is and with players such as JAllen, Culter will be seeing a lot of turf face to face.  Yes, Cutler is a mobile QB, but some of the DEs he will be facing are just as swift.  It is this bloggers opinion that Cutler will be lucky to get away with his health.

I was sick to my stomach when i heard we had the deal between us and the texans became final and that we had landed sage rosenfels to compete with T-jack. After we lost to philly in the playoffs and childress said he wanted to bring in a person to compete with jackson, i thought he was just saying that to make jackson feel like he still was in the running. And i assumed that they would bring in a real quaterback such Cassel, Garcia, Warner, or a Leftwhich to run the team next year. But turns out Chilly wasnt lying he did get a guy that would compete at the same level of Jackson, which isnt saying much.

tations is whether or not the Head Coach deserves to keep the reigns for another go-round.  In Brad Childress' case, I do not think he does.  Sure, he did lead the Vikes to a 10-6 season (technically better than any record Mike Tice posted), but my judgement comes down to this: Under Childress next year, I think the Vikings could just as easily go back to being a 7-9 team as they could make the playoffs again.  I mean, who really thought that the Vikings could make a realistic run at the SuperBowl this year (or will next year with the exact same staff in place)?  When Childress was quarantined by the Vikings front office and hired away from Philadelphia, he was supposed to be an offense-orientated leader.  However, now with three years of hindsight, Brad Johnson throwing to Koren Robinson and handing off to Chester Taylor (the last year of the Tice regime) was just as productive as Tarvaris Jackson throwing to Bernard Berrian and giving to Adrian Peterson.  Essentially, what I'm trying to say is that Childress has come nowhere near delivering the "kick-ass" offense he promised a few seasons ago.  Sure, the defense has been incredible, but Chilly lucked out in that regard (and was likely helped by the presence of Mike Tomlin, now Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers), as the Wilfs had just doled out the money to Pat Williams, Antoine Winfield, and Darren Sharper, while Kevin Williams was becoming a major inside force.

receivers on plays that should have moved the chains.

Secondly, the playing calling of Head Coach Brad Childress as it relates to the running of Adrian Peterson.  Since Peterson is one of the top runners in the game right now, I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't just screwing around in the backfield.  Instead, the blame goes to Childress for not utilitzing AD in a better fashion.  During the third quarter, Peterson had six rush attempts for ten total yards, which is unacceptable if the Vikes want to win a game.  I understand that Chester Taylor is much better at picking up the blitz and thus needs to be on the field for many third-and-long passing situations, but (at least to me) that doesn't excuse the strange non-usage of Peterson.

As I mentioned yesterday, the Eagles came right after Tarvaris Jackson. And they beat him. They brought some real pressure on him like I haven't seen before. He did make some good plays - I don't think he was absolutely terrible. But I do agree with Kevin Seifert ( http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nfcnorth/0-7-38/QB-questions-not-going-away-for-Vikings.html) when he says that the Jackson experiement is over and it's time to move on. The Vikings have a great runningback in Adrian Peterson. The defense is good when they are healthy. Special teams have been below average but that will improve in practice. They have some decent wideouts that can make the plays. They need a QB that can throw it to them.

>The kind of game that the Vikings played on Sunday, I imagine, is EXACTLY the type of contest that Brad Childress envisioned for this offense when he took over as Head Coach three years ago.  QB Tarvaris Jackson was smart with the ball AND made a heap of outstanding throws (a combination we had never seen from him until this point) to give the Vikings a lead, after which point they rode Adrian Peterson (165 yards) for the rest of the game.  Throw in the tremendous pressure that the defense put on Kurt Warner and the Arizona receivers, and a blowout was almost inevitable.

him behind center.  I have said this many times before (though perhaps not on this blog) that Brad Childress has modeled this Viking offense off his time in Philadelphia under Andy Reid.  The Eagles always had a star running back (Bryant Westbrook), no notable wide receivers (James Thrash and Freddie Mitchell, anyone?!), and a defense that stifled the run.  The Vikings have those three components as well, but whereas the Eagles had Donovan McNabb at the helm, the Vikes have Rot (because Tarvaris Jackson bombed).  It was perhaps the most short-sighted move of the entire

s how the Wilfs (both Ziggy and brother Mark) feel completely confident in their chosen Head Coach, Brad Childress.  To me (and maybe I'm just reading into things too much), I don't see how ANYBODY could be COMPLETELY confident in Chili to this point in his tenure.  I mean, what has he shown that has the Wilfs so "impressed" with him.  The offense still (by and large) stinks, the defense has gotten worse (especially against the pass), and the special teams are now horrendous.

To me, those two paragraphs above make about as much sense as the phrase "jumbo shrimp".  The Vikings desperately need some consistent offense, right?  Well, here's the simple solution...bring back both Linehan (Head Coach) and the Pepper (QB).  Now, before you start calling me crazy, just hear me out:

So, the question I am asking all Vikings fans right now is...do you think this team, coached by Brad Childress, can put together enough wins against that bunch to earn a playoff berth?  For me, at least, the answer is a resounding NO!  Sure, we scored 41 points against the Bears, but that will not be duplicated on a regular basis, and we still actually LOST that game.

In my previous post, summing up the Vikings/Bears contest of last Sunday, I touched on the multiple areas in which the Vikings failed to put that game in the "W" column, including offense (four interceptions thrown by Gus Frerotte), and special teams (two mangled plays that led to Bears touchdowns).  However, in this post, I would like to lay the blame where I strongly feel it sorely belongs...on the pass defense.

ce era, when the "McCombs Administration" would not spend a time on the defense.  As Brad Childress put together such talent as Pat Williams, Antoine Winfield, Darren Sharper, and Dwight Smith (until the whole sex-in-the-stairwell thing), the overall defense seemed to improve, but teams (starting with the New England Patriots on a fateful Monday night in 2006) began to realizing that all you had to do to beat the Vikings was pass, pass, and then pass a little more.

t, could score two touchdowns a game, with his eyes closed.

So, in my perfect world, I would fire Brad Childress regardless of our place in the standings Sunday.  By making the early move, the Vikes could install Linehan at the helm over the bye week, in time for a game against the Houston Texans that the Childress-coached Vikings will be hard-pressed to win.  Might the team squirm under having to adapt to a new head coach in mid-season?  Perhaps.  However, the chances of winning anything significant with Childress at the helm are quite slim.  Remember, Childress was an impulse hire from the get-go.  After Ziggy Wilf canned Mike Tice nearly before the goofy guy made it off the field in Week 17 of 2005, the Vikings top brass interviewed Childress (hilariously the former OFFENSIVE coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles) right away.  Despite wanting to interview other candidates, though, the Vikings knew that a few others teams were courting Childress, and thus signed him without seriously considering other offers.  From that point, nothing has been done to improve the quality of the Vikings' offense in two seasons and six games, so in my opinion a change must be made.

ct on a 40-yard field goal to give the Lions a lackluster 3-2 lead.  Since the introduction of Brad Childress as head coach of the Vikings, this was perhaps the worst offensive half of football that Vikings fans had ever seen.  As the Purple headed to the lockeroom to regroup, boos reigned down upon them, along with a rolling chant of "Fire Childress".  Personally, I don't condone such rude behavior from fans, but I definitely agreed with their sentiment.

So what if the Colts got one lucky deep play and cut the lead in half. Their kicker missed a chip shot 30 yard field goal! As soon as Longwell makes it 6-for-6, the defense will just dig in and - "
