Who will start for the Minnesota Vikings? Tavaris Jackson?

Well, folks, the 2008-2009 NFL season is creeping upon us, and the Minnesota Vikings still do not have that number one quarterback. Sure, Brad Childress will say that Tavaris is his man, but as any Viking fan will tell you, his performance over the last two seasons has been less-than-stellar. Although the young quarterback has only started one full season, the Minnesota faithful realize that this team is Super Bowl bound, if only they could settle on a quarterback. Who should it be? Tavaris Jackson? Gus Frerotte? John David Booty? Let us weigh the pros and cons of T. Jax.

Tavaris Jackson: The Scrappy Underdog from Alabama State.

Tavaris Jackson has the arm strength that many quarterbacks in the NFL crave. He can launch the ball 40 yards down the field and make it look like he was tossing it outside on a swing pass. Unfortunately, for all this amazing arm strength, there is the issue of experience. While not a slow quarterback, he seems to panic under pressure.  If he gets behind in a game, or the team feels that he needs to make plays to win it for the Vikings, his accuracy faulters. For instance, when he threw more than 20 passes in a game, he threw at least one interception in all the games but two. What the Vikings need is a game manager, as much as I loathe that term. Someone who won't lose the game for them. With Adrian Peterson, an amazing line, and a plethora of new recievers, Tavaris Jackson should improve this year. But the question is, will he be the starter on week 8?

What do I think? I think Tavaris Jackson SHOULD be the starter for the Minnesota Vikings. I think his pros outweigh his cons. What other rookie from a small school excelled in his first NFL season? He's only a kid, a kid that shows promise. Part of the problem was his recievers. I recall him throwing bombs down the field, right into the reciever's hands, only for him to drop it. Cough cough, Troy Williamson, cough cough.
